 Library Expansion Project

In June 2005, a joint Library Board/City Council committee held its first of several meetings to discuss an expansion project for Schreiner Memorial Library. The first two meetings consisted of brainstorming sessions to gather ideas and suggestions on what the expanded facility should include. The consensus of the committee was to have a facility that would make Lancaster a place for tourists to stop and to serve a greater purpose for the community.

The following groups have been invited to assist in the planning process of the project: Grant County Historical Society, Lancaster Historical Society, Nelson Dewey Heritage Society, Lancaster Tourism Committee, Chamber of Commerce, Grant County Genealogical Society and Lancaster Community Band. The proposed facility will include an expanded library as well as a historical museum, a band shell, an art gallery, a tourist information center and possibly a coffee shop.

The Library Expansion Committee and other groups continue to meet regularly to move forward on the planning of this exciting project. The committee encourages input from the community. For more information review the committee meeting minutes and other miscellaneous materials being considered in the development of the cultural center in Lancaster. If you have questions please contact Scot Simpson at City Hall.
